[…] the Linux kernel community is offering all companies free Linux driver developmentAll that is needed is some kind of specification that describes how your device works, or the email address of an engineer that is willing to answer questions every once in a while. […] In return, you will receive a complete and working Linux driver that is added to the main Linux kernel source tree

Pick a Color, Please!

iPod Shuffle 2G Colors

Yesterday Apple launched a new set of colors for the iPod Shuffle: Pink, Orange, Green (alien), Azure and, obviously, the classic Silver. In my opinion is the right move to “recharge” the interest for this device (if it would have need ever).

It would be a good idea for Saint Valentine (if you have a so heavy wallet ;) ).

Source, Melablog.
A beauty photographic-set for an Orange one is on AppleInsider.

P.S. What about the Pennone’s iPod Shuffle? It’s “Nonpeen“!!! ;)

Switch to OpenDNS

Use OpenDNS OpenDNS. A Safer, Faster and Smarter DNS network, open to any user: you only need to change your DNS configuration to:

  • 208.67.222.222
  • 208.67.220.220

If you need other info, take a look at the FAQ page.

I experienced a speed improvement in name resolution and the anti-phishing system works great and transparently. It’s a very good initiative.

SpotlightFS: example of MacFUSE usage

SpotlightFS
I check the Official Google MacBlog regularly and, yeasterday, I read something interest on it:

SpotlightFS is a MacFUSE file system that creates true smart folders, where the folders’ contents are dynamically generated by querying Spotlight. This differs from Finder’s version of smart folders, which are really plist files with a “.savedSearch” file extension. Since SpotlightFS smart folders are true folders, they can be used from anywhere—including the command line!

SpotlightFS is not very complicated, and it’s a good example of what can quickly and easily be done using MacFUSE. Please check out SpotlightFS and the other cool stuff on the newly updated MacFUSE project site.

Wow. Sounds good. A really “dinamically generated” file-system, based on the Spotlight Engine. It seems to be much too much better of the annoying smart folders and… it’s a file-system!!! ;)

Edited at 19:32 in the same day of the posting: I have installed MacFUSE 0.1.9 (quite simple) and tried SpotlightFS and SSHFS also. The first is too heavy for my iBook (like Spotlight itself… but with the not-marginal difference that the main process of indexing is not interruptable :( ). It also needs a Preference Panel to manage complex search query (actually the only available from Finder is searching by keyword).
The second is simple to setup and run (very quick) but… it’s obviously embryonal and “raw”. But, I think that it’s only the beginning ;) .

Solved! Rubik vs. Detro 0-1

When I was in London for the first time, I buyed a Rubik’s Cube (I have never found it near my home). Yeasterday Yesterday, saying seeing “The Pursuit of HappYness” (a very good work of the italian directory director Muccino… and a GREAT Will Smith), the curiosity growed-up: the Rubik Cube was on my desk.

After the movie, I started to look for help and howto for this game: the best I found is by Gaetano Zumbo (thank you very much). It’s in italian, but it contains a lot of example, techniques, tips and 3d animation in Java3D.

Another method for the resolution of this “brain teaser”, take a look at RubikIllusions.

Continue for the video. Continue…
