Better Samba File Sharing in Leopard

I know: Samba is Open Source and you can ALREADY do it by hand (on Tiger too) but it’s quite easier if you have a panel to set up it quicker.

Take a look at this:

iSync and SonyEricsson Symbian/UIQ 3.0 finally speaking

W950i
Thanks God, now I can iSync!!!

As someone probably remember, I switched from an Nokia E70 to a Sony Ericsson W950i.

In the beginning, it was not possible to synchronize my iBook with my new smarth-phone because of a “strange” implementation of the SyncML protocol on Sony Ericsson/UIQ 3.0 phones.

A lot of people has tried to figure out how to do it (Google for it), failing! But now Sony_Ericsson has finally released the relative plugins:

Enjoy! ;-)

Update 15th August 2007: BTW, the plugins (I tested on only the one for W950i) doesn’t synchronize Tasks (Todos). I really don’t know why ( :?: ). But it’s already a good lip ahead.

The more you Hide, The more I want to See!

Update 14th August 2007: Look at this!!! The first NATIVE GAME for iPhone! Before that Apple itself release any game for it 8-O !!!

Installer.app for iPhone
It’s true: iPhone is based on Mac OSX and it is quite similar to it. Apple, from the beginning, has chosen to close it, avoiding to release any SDK or stuff like that.

Theoretically, the only thing a developer can do is to work on a Web 2.0/Ajax web app. That is not so bad, but… not enough. At least, for hackers that “likes to know more and more”.

What I like to think is: «The more you Hide, The more I want to See!». And is EXACTLY what’s happening with the iPhone APIs. People (not normal, we are speaking about hackers) are discovering more and more about it. How to unlock it to use different SIM then the AT&T one, the SDK used by Apple programmes of iPhone, the compiler configuration to compile for it (previous knowledge of ARM phones is enough). Just Google for it around and you will find a lot of interesting informations about this.

So, I’d like to highlight just 3 of a lot of interesting posts (all 3 of them are from TUAW):

They are not the best example of what you can find/do: but… try to read them forgetting, for just a second, that you are speaking about iPhone. And then think about the Jobs presentation of it.

How beautiful is the Human Mind? Whatever is the problem, we find almost every time a solution to go ahead. To solve it. To look inside what is closed and hided to our sight. And the world of Computer Science/IT, and particularly the Reverse Engineering, is the one of the best example of these things.

Bejeweled for Free

Bejeweled
This version of Bejeweled is available for free as Ajax implementation. And it is a good way to waste your work-time ;) .
Originally thinked to run on iPhone, it is quite good also on Firefox (I haven’t tried on IE).

Enjoy!

What? Sorry, if you, like me until this morning, don’t know what the hell is this game, here is a piece of the dedicated Wikipedia page:

History

Initially it was created by PopCap Games as a web-based Flash game called Diamond Mine. The game was an incredible success for PopCap, which had only formed in 2000. PopCap created partnerships with well established Internet gaming sites such as Microsoft Zone to host Bejeweled as well. The game has also been ported to other platforms, including Bejeweled Deluxe for Microsoft Windows. Astraware produced Bejeweled for PDAs on the Palm OS, PocketPC and Smartphone platforms. They also released Bejeweled Deluxe on the Xbox as a downloadable Xbox Live Arcade game. On September 12, 2006, it was released as one of the first games downloadable from the iTunes Store for the Apple iPod.

Recently, skill games like Bejeweled have been retooled for head-to-head gaming sites like SkillJam and WorldWinner. Players can play in “vs.” games for cash prizes or join tournaments.
